America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins
Any thoughts on these? Anyone planning on collecting or just buying a few? Looks like a pretty nice collector series of US Mint 5oz bullion coins starting in 2010.

Too big.
Maybe one, if I come across one. US Mint coins aren't as commonly offered over here. |
Re: America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins
The 5oz rounds look cool, but they will probably bang out 16 of them and then run out of silver.:sarcasm:

I wish they would do some of their more popular peices in 5 ozs

The Mint should worry about upgrading production on all bullion and proof SAEs and GAEs, before introducing new products. They can't fulfill their existing charter, as mandated by law, how are they going to handle new products?
Those bullion "quarters" just look like typical, overpriced Mint junk. I'll withhold judgment on the 5 oz rounds until they are released, if ever. Is this going to be bullion, or a collectors item? |

I still don't think they will make enough of them to stack Josey. Smacking these things out means they will run out of silver 5 times faster than they already do punching eagles.
Here is the blanks they will use, if they can get them in any quantity: Attachment 84575 |
Re: America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins
Hey Irons, I picked up one of those five ounce rounds from APMEX last month. My first round in that size and I really like it. I may check out the mint coins when they come out. But I am with Outlaw on this, the premiuns have to be somewhat resonable. In the long run, it will come down to final mintage numbers that will determine their "long term" value. I would guess these will be more accepted than the current 1/2 ounce gold spouse coins.
But hey, with a face value of $0.25 per five ounce silver coin you can't go wrong, right? bancha At five cents an ounce, the U.S. Mint must know something about the future that we don't know! :moon: |

If the mint gets around to banging a few of them 5oz quarters out I agree the premimums will be stupid high and probably won't carry over on a sale. I like the sunshines when I can find them, even like now when I'm not looking for silver I will snag one of them if the opportunity presents itself. |

Re: America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins
The U.S. Mint announces the continuation of its "Let's Prostitute the Entire U.S. Coinage System" program, with the introduction of yet another token coin series. Extending the quarter program out another 11 years, the mint has made the 25-cent piece the queen of its coin slut program. "Although our cheapening of the nickel with a myriad of sporadic changes made our 5-cent piece a virtual whore for a few years, there's no denying that the quarter program is 'ole reliable' when it comes to selling out for a cheap thrill", said the U.S. Mint's "Main Madame". "We'd put a friggin' pile of dog crap on those two-bit betties if we thought the public would continue to hoard them, thereby extending our massive seigniorage."
During 2009, the Prostitute Program focused on the lowly penny, reducing the austere respectability of Abe Lincoln to a common tramp, showing him in several different poses on the cent's reverse side. 2009 also marked the year of the quarter's promiscuity being extended to U.S. Territories, bridging the gap to 2010 when it can begin another cycle of whoring out the 50 States. "We'll keep churning these suckers out until they are virtual subway tokens if we have to", said one Mint representative. Interestingly, the only primary circulating coin to escape the escalating prostitution of U.S. coins is the dime, which continues to feature the original profile of FDR introduced in 1946. |

Nope, won't bite on that coin. I still want my 2009 Proof ASE.
